Its impressive appearance and the distinctive sound when charging make it clear that it is dead serious. Users will especially appreciate the intuitive controls. The construction consists of an alloy frame covered with durable polymer. The robust full metal loading chamber and massive muzzle brake increase the weight of the Home Defense Extreme shotgun to more than 3 kg. Nevertheless, the gun is perfectly balanced and has excellent ergonomics.
The HDX 68 shotgun uses cal .68 (17.3 mm) ammunition and with an 88 g CO₂ cartridge its muzzle energy reaches up to 40 J. With a single 88 g cartridge you will fire approx. 30 full-power shots (2 magazines). With the help of a suitable adapter you can also use two 12 g CO₂ cartridges. In this case, however, the muzzle energy will be around 24 J and you will fire approx. 12 full-power shots (not quite a full magazine).
Thanks to its 366 mm long barrel this model achieves surprising accuracy. Although it is not primarily intended for target shooting, it performs excellently in dynamic shooting at tin cans and similar targets. The internal tubular magazine holds 16 rounds, which is a very decent ammunition reserve.
The trigger mechanism operates in Single Action mode. The trigger is excellent. The manual safety is located on the frame and is easy to operate.
The open sights consist of a fixed fiber-optic front sight and a height- and windage-adjustable rear sight. Thanks to the long 22 mm Weaver rail, mounting a red dot sight on the shotgun is no problem. Another rail is located on the fore-end and is suitable, for example, for mounting a laser or flashlight.
Umarex T4E (Training for Engagement) weapons are an effective means of self-defence. This is proven by the fact that many armed forces and professionals use them for training. You do not need to be a professional, and you will enjoy plenty of fun with them when shooting at targets or tin cans.
Note: The difference between the HDX and TX models is only in the name. They are identical products.
