How To Choose The Right Scope Mount

Take a look at what type of mounting rail is your weapon equipped with. Air rifles usually come with 11 mm Dovetail rails. The 22 mm is another commonly used type and it is usually the Weaver or Picatinny rail. The height of the mount is the next important thing. We would recommend getting the lowest mount you can find because the objective lens can then be as close to the gun as possible. The distance between the scope axis and the barrel directly affects the accuracy. The height of the mount can be measured from the lower part of the mount ring to the gun itself. The last thing you need to know is the tube diameter of your scope. The most common diameters are 25,4 mm (1 inch) and 30 mm.

One Piece Scope Mounts

These mounts consist of a single piece of material. They are more durable and are a perfect choice for spring piston air rifles with higher recoils or large caliber firearms.

Two Piece Scope Mounts

These mounts are probably the most popular amongst the shooters. Their low weight and variability means they can be used with almost any gun. It doesn’t matter if you own a PCP rifle or a hunting rifle, the two piece mount just works.

They are most commonly made from aluminium and steel. The former are lightweight and more affordable. You can use them with airguns and rimfire rifles. Venox mounts offer a good value for their price. We would recommend picking up steel mounts for larger calibers. Mount rings made from aircraft-grade aluminium offer the best possible quality and we would suggest checking out the products from Czech manufacturer Valiant who specializes in scopes and therefore has lots of experience in this field.

You can even come across see-thru mounts which will allow you to quickly take aim at shorter ranges with the iron sights of your weapon.
