RAM Rifle Umarex T4E TC 68 16J Full-Auto

Umarex TC 68 (also Tactical Carbine) caught our attention already at the IWA 2025 trade fair in Nuremberg. It is a multi-purpose CO2 rifle which, depending on the chosen power version, can be used for self-defence, backyard training shooting or for paintball matches.

POWER

The TC68 rifle is available in 7.5J, 16J and 40J versions.

In the 7.5J version it offers only a semi-automatic (semi-auto) firing mode, where you have to pull the trigger for each shot.

The 16J and 40J versions offer a fully automatic (full-auto) firing mode and of course also a semi-auto mode.

AMMUNITION

You can use practically any rubber, paintball and pepper .68 calibre projectiles (17.27 mm) as ammunition. The lower 20-round magazine is even compatible with non-spherical “precision” type projectiles to achieve better accuracy.

If you require a higher ammunition capacity, you can use the supplied adaptor to install any paintball hopper-type magazine. The package also includes a lower “dummy mag” magazine plug.

POWER SOURCE

This rifle is powered by a large 88 g CO2 cartridge, which is screwed into the rear part of the main block after removing the stock. The manufacturer states that one cartridge is sufficient for 250 full-power shots in the 7.5J version, 180 shots in the 16J version and 80 shots in the 40J version. You can also use an adapter for two 12 g CO2 cartridges, which will reduce the power and number of shots, but offers the popular quick-piercing system by striking the rear of the stock. A red indicator, which pops out from the top of the stock when pressurised, informs you that the power unit is activated.

However, if you want to maximise power and shot count, you can convert the rifle to a PCP air rifle by installing any 200 cc HPA bottle with regulator (with an output pressure in the range from 800 up to a maximum of 1200 psi / 55 to 82 bar). Umarex offers a set of adapter and plastic butt plate as an accessory.

A welcome innovation by the manufacturer is the safety valve located in front of the stock. It allows you to safely vent the internal system of the gun while the cartridge remains pressurised. Although we still do not recommend leaving an activated CO2 cartridge in place longer than necessary (the freezing carbon dioxide can eventually damage the sealing O-rings of the valve), the valve comes in handy during maintenance or for short breaks in shooting. And if, instead of CO2 capsules, you use the above-mentioned HPA bottle, there is no longer any risk of seal damage caused by freezing gas.

The second new feature is the power regulator located behind the grip, which can be used to regulate the gas flow from the cartridge into the gun. This allows you to set the gun’s power for different purposes – for example, reduce the power if you are heading for a paintball match, or increase the power in a self-defence situation. The regulator cover also serves as a tool for turning it.

CONSTRUCTION

The 300 mm rifle barrel is mounted only on its own Autococker thread, so it can be easily removed for cleaning or replaced with a tuning barrel. At the muzzle with M22x1.5 thread there is a metal imitation muzzle brake, which you can, for example, replace with the tracer device Umarex T4E X-Tracer .68.

The entire TC 68 rifle is based on the AR-15 platform, so you will find plenty of standardised components on it, such as an easily replaceable AR-15 grip, a top Picatinny rail, a handguard with multiple M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom, ambidextrous fire selector, ambidextrous magazine release and ambidextrous QD sling mount.

The internal rifle frame is of course made of metal and then covered with a lightweight impact-resistant polymer body. As a result, the TC 68 boasts a durable construction while keeping the overall weight at only 2900 grams.

Maintenance

Since the gun is powered by CO2 cartridges, the rubber seals can, due to the freezing carbon dioxide, gradually become brittle and crack. You can prevent this by occasionally applying a few drops of silicone oil to the neck of the inserted cartridge. At the same time, we do not recommend leaving an activated cartridge in the gun longer than necessary. If you know you will not be shooting for some time, vent the pressure and remove the empty cartridge. This is not necessary when using an HPA system with compressed air.

Our opinion: The TC 68 tactical carbine is the best-designed RAM gun we have had here so far. It offers endless possible uses, adjustable power and the option to use different types of power source. In addition, thanks to the AR-15 platform, you can mount practically any commonly available accessory on it. Umarex has really outdone itself this time and from Balistas it gets a thumbs-up.
