How to choose an airgun for children
We are often asked which airgun would we recommend for you to buy for your
children. However, the answer is abit complicated, both in terms of use and
legislation. This article will cover the different types of airguns, their pros
and cons, as well as some advice in the end.
Right from the start, we should note that the category "children's airguns" itself is just a public term. No manufacturer produces airguns exclusively for children. There are, however, airguns that can fit children by their smaller dimensions, lower power or simplicity of use.
The youth airguns in our offer can be split into 3 main types - spring powered airguns, pump airguns and CO2 airguns.
Spring airguns
This type of children's airguns is easily recognizable. You'll usually find them as scaled-down replicas of vintage winchester rifles with a lever-action style charging lever. In order to load the round and fire it, you have to compress the internal spring using the lever system. After pulling the trigger, the spring fitted with a sealing ring (thus functioning as a piston) returns to its original position. This also pushes out the air in the chamber, which ejects the projectile - either a steel BB or a lead pellet.
These airguns are affordable, easy to use and require little to no maintenance. Furthermore, their dimensions make them ideal for even the youngest shooters.
The spring itself could be considered a disadvantage. Cocking these airguns requires a relatively high effort which can be impossible for small children to do. On the other hand, children should never shoot an airgun without an adult supervision who can prepare the rifle for them. That way, you can also be sure that the neighborhood is safe without your presence.

PCA airguns
The next category are PCA (Pre Charged Air) guns, also called pump guns. As the name implies, you have to pressurise them by pumping. This is usually solved by a pump integrated in the forearm. Most models are recommended to take no more than 10 compressions, otherwise you risk damaging the internal mechanism. After pressurising, just insert the pellet, aim and shoot.
Due to their relatively high power of up to 10J and good accuracy, long PCA rifles are suitable for target shooting even at dozens of meters. For this we recommend purchasing a rifle scope with an appropriate 11mm rail mount. Although the short PCA air pistols offer less firepower, you'll still have plenty of fun with them.
