The German company Umarex, specifically their division T4E (Training for Engagement), presents the second generation of the best-selling pistol for rubber and pepper projectiles called HDP50 Gen2. It is obvious that the manufacturer has listened to customer feedback and implemented welcome changes while not unnecessarily altering anything that works flawlessly.
The most significant difference compared to the original version (11J) is the increase in power up to 13J, which makes it one of the most powerful short RAM guns in .50 calibre.
The second major change is the new valve for activating the 12g CO2 cartridge. It has been redesigned so that it can be easily loosened by hand without the need for an Allen key. It still performs its function flawlessly – in case of danger you just need to lightly strike it with your palm, which pierces the neck of the cartridge and the gun is ready to fire. You can carry the pistol prepared in this way for an unlimited time without the risk of degrading the O-rings. After activation, a so‑called pressure indicator pops up above the grip, indicating that the pistol is pressurised.
Other minor changes include a non-slip grip texture and sights with fibre‑optic light pipes, which make aiming easier even in low-light conditions.
The bottom Picatinny rail for mounting a laser or tactical light and the convenient trigger-integrated safety remain unchanged.
As ammunition you can use all types of RAM balls, such as rubber, pepper or marking projectiles.
Since the gun is powered by CO2 cartridges, the rubber seals may, over time, become brittle and crack due to the freezing carbon dioxide. You can prevent this by occasionally applying silicone oil 1) spray, where you simply spray the internal mechanism, 2) applying a few drops of silicone oil to the neck of the inserted cartridge, 3) using an oil cartridge (the easiest way). We also do not recommend leaving an activated cartridge in the gun longer than necessary. If you know you will not be shooting for some time, release the pressure by loosening the valve.
