It consists of a fire starter that also serves as a sheath for inserting the ferrocerium rod. Inside the fire starter you can also store tinder or any other fire-lighting material. When the rod is inserted into the fire starter, it creates a watertight compartment inside. Unlike matches or a lighter, the fire starter works even when wet, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to light a fire with it.
The fire starter and rod are connected by a cord that also has an emergency whistle on it. With it you can signal your position over a much greater distance than your shout would reach. The fire starter is 122 mm long and weighs only 74 grams, so it won’t significantly increase the weight of your gear.
