How Do Blank Rounds Work?

Defensive blanks, unlike the regular blank rounds, contain substances that are especially designed to stop the attacker. They usually contain either pepper extract (PV - Nonivamide) or tear gas (CS - Chlorobenzalmalononitrile). This substance is released from the muzzle upon pulling the trigger. The effect is similar to pepper spray but the shot is accompanied by a loud acoustic effect which can scare the attacker off on itself. Their maximum effective range is around 4 meters but that largely depends on surrounding weather conditions. You have to be careful and never shoot against the wind.

Types Of Blank Ammunition

Standard blank and Flash Defense rounds are the basic type of this ammunition. They only offer an acoustic effect with a brief flash of light. They are predominately used with starter pistols or for training your dog. They are also necessary if you want to launch signal flares. Defensive blanks are the other category and they include CS rounds and even PV and PV-S pepper rounds. Wadie and Walther are the main two manufacturers of this ammunition.
