In April 2026, the Chinese thermal imaging manufacturer Hikmicro organised a
tour of its production facilities and development centre. As one of the most
important dealers in the region, Balistas could not miss this opportunity.
At the beginning of April 2026, we visited the headquarters and production plants of the Chinese thermal imaging manufacturer Hikmicro. The tour was organised and arranged by the Czech and Slovak distributor Tenolix, to whom we owe our sincere thanks.
The aim of the trip was to get acquainted with Hikmicro’s production processes, their standards and corporate structure. During the tour, we had the opportunity to take part in discussions about potential new models, take a behind-the-scenes look at development, and also pass on your feedback – that of our customers.
During our visit to the Hikmicro headquarters, we unfortunately weren’t allowed to take any photos or videos, so you’ll have to make do with shots from the places where it was permitted. However, Hikmicro is very particular about its presentation, so despite this restriction it was no problem to capture several interesting photographs.
A few words about Hikmicro
The Hikmicro brand is part of the Chinese industrial giant Hikvision, which has more than 56,000 employees and over 1 million m² of production space in the Chinese cities of Hangzhou, Tonglu, Chongqing and Wuhan. The company also operates international production facilities in India, Brazil and the United Kingdom. Its wide product portfolio includes security camera systems, recording devices, alarm systems and, last but not least, of course also thermal imaging and night vision devices. At Hikvision, they certainly can’t complain about a lack of demand, as security cameras really are everywhere in China.

Hikvision factory in Tonglu
Our journey into the technological heart of Hikmicro began with a visit to the production plant in Tonglu. This fully automated factory has taken its production processes to a completely new level. Everything is efficiently controlled using automated procedures, including dispensers for protective shoe covers. For example, you won’t see a classic pallet truck in the factory. All material transport is handled by partially autonomous robots, which constantly move special racks with components and parts between individual production lines. The production itself, given the complexity and specificity of the various operations, is still carried out by human labour, but with maximum emphasis on the quality and durability of the manufactured models. Every single unit is tested for impact resistance and waterproofness before final packaging, with great attention also paid to image quality and the required optical characteristics.
Chip and sensor production
Another stop in Tonglu was the development centre where chips and sensors are created. Through a window we watched the work in the clean room, and this hermetically sealed workplace left no doubt that we were in a cutting-edge scientific facility.

Hikmicro headquarters in Hangzhou
We then moved on to the Hikmicro headquarters in the modern city centre of Hangzhou. The company’s offices are packed with the latest technologies and, as you would probably expect from a leading manufacturer of security systems, even the time clocks here work on the basis of facial recognition. More than 5,000 employees work in the building and two whole floors are dedicated to catering. Thanks to the modern facilities, company café and landscaped gardens around the building, the working environment feels genuinely pleasant.
Hikvision showroom
Another item on the programme was a visit to the showroom featuring the entire product portfolio of Hikvision. This gave us a unique opportunity to see everything from sophisticated camera systems for securing premises and managing traffic to thermal imaging and night vision for civilian as well as professional use, for example for armed forces, the industrial sector, metallurgy and medicine. Hikmicro takes full advantage of its location in the centre of a city of twelve million inhabitants and tests its systems for securing streets and monitoring traffic directly on the streets of Hangzhou. We thus had a unique chance to see their security systems in action, and you can believe us when we say that in China you really can’t hide from the gaze of Big Brother. High‑performance cameras placed on the upper floors of skyscrapers monitor busy junctions, and their zoom is almost disturbingly effective. The cameras of course also work in night mode with AI colour correction, so at first glance you can barely tell that you’re looking at night footage. Only the digital clock in the corner of the image gives it away.

Discussion about new Hikmicro models
After visiting the showroom, the whole group moved to a conference room, where we took part in an in‑depth discussion about future Hikmicro models. The company representatives were interested in feedback from us and from our customers, and the conference also included a discussion about possible improvements. Staff from Hikmicro’s development division wanted to hear our opinions on the new versions of existing and very popular products that are currently being developed. Unfortunately, we can’t be more specific here, but you won’t have to wait too long for them to be unveiled. The new generations of these models should be available by the end of this year. The discussion was fruitful and gave a very constructive impression. Whether our insights will be reflected in the new devices only time will tell.
The tour also included a visit to the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and also Shanghai with the world’s third‑tallest skyscraper — Shanghai Tower.
Did you know that...
Shanghai Tower boasts the fastest lift in the world. Travelling at 20.5 m/s (73.8 km/h), it takes you to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds. The total height of the skyscraper is an impressive 632 m.
This trip was a unique experience that helped us to get to know Hikmicro’s production processes and philosophy, as well as to discover China’s distinctive culture and breathtaking sights. Our sincere thanks go to Hikmicro and Tenolix for arranging and organising everything. We stand firmly behind all the products we offer and are pleased that you can purchase these top‑class devices from us.
I have been working at the company since 2019, where I am responsible for coordinating the company’s marketing activities and overseeing the professional quality of our e-shop’s content. I have been interested in weapons for as long as I can remember, so working at Balistas was an obvious choice for me. In my free time, I enjoy going to the shooting range or spending time in nature. I also occasionally strum the guitar and never turn down a good book.
Nowadays, night vision devices are becoming increasingly popular. They are
widely used by the military and security agencies, but also by hunters. But
which one is right for you and what are the differences between them?
That's what we'll explore in this article.
