Historical original
The Sharps Model 1859 carbine followed the designs of Christian Sharps and used a percussion cap and a paper cartridge in a breech-loading system. Thanks to its shorter design, it was issued to cavalry units during the American Civil War between 1861 and 1865. Many Sharps carbines were converted for metallic cartridges after the war and also served in the following decades.
