Historical inspiration
French duelling pistols from the first half of the 19th century used a percussion lock, which was a more advanced method of igniting the powder charge than the older flintlock system. The percussion cap was fitted onto the nipple and fired by the hammer strike. Duelling pistols were commonly made as matching pairs.
