Pepperbox Replica – six-barrel revolver, England 1840

Pepperbox is a decorative replica of a six-barrel pepperbox revolver, associated with England around 1840. The metal construction is complemented by wooden grips; the finish combines black and brass-coloured parts.

The replica features a moving mechanism: it can be cocked, and the mechanism clicks when the trigger is pulled. The cluster of six barrels is rotatable, imitating the characteristic design of the historical pepperbox.

Historical original

Pepperboxes were multi-barrel repeating handguns whose barrels were grouped around a common axis instead of using a separate rotating cylinder. English pepperboxes were produced in larger quantities especially from the 1830s to the 1850s and commonly had six or seven barrels. The design appeared in various ignition systems, including flintlock and percussion.
