How about a rifle-mounted flashlight?

A hunting flashlight must withstand recoil, and its extreme resistance to water etc. hardly even needs to be mentioned. And how do you mount a flashlight on a firearm? Easily. Just choose a tactical flashlight, ideally with a body diameter of 25.4 mm (1"), and select a suitable mount. It definitely pays off to get a remote switch, because in practice you cannot keep changing your grip on the firearm just to turn the light on.

Colour filters are very useful

A big advantage is the option to use colour filters or multiple light colour modes. For example: have you ever turned on white light in complete darkness? Then you surely know that you instantly lose your night vision. It takes about 15–25 minutes for every human eye to adapt to the dark again. Red and green light is gentler on the eyes and is also less revealing. A great example of a hunting flashlight with colour filters is the Fenix HT18, which also impresses with 1500 lumens and an extreme beam distance of 925 m. With the help of a mount it can even be attached to a firearm.

A hunting flashlight makes tracking easier

Unfortunately, game does not always remain “in the fire” after a hit. Then tracking follows, which is particularly demanding at night. In such a case, of course, a hunting dog is the best option, but did you know there is a flashlight that can highlight colour (blood)? The Primos Bloodhunter, as the name suggests, features a special optical filter that highlights the colour (blood) and neutralises the colours of the surrounding environment. A more compact version is also available. For searching large areas, the Wuben H8 handheld flashlight with a 1 km beam distance is unbeatable. Usually, after a successful tracking job and paying respect to the game, evisceration follows; here, headlamps have the advantage, because the hunter needs both hands free.
