The Barnett TS390 crossbow ranks among sport hunting crossbows. In the Czech Republic, however, you can only use it for target shooting. Even so, it provides a very impressive experience. This crossbow has very interesting parameters. Particularly noteworthy is the kinetic energy generated when the bolt is fired, which reaches 173.96 J.
To even be able to release a bolt, you need to exert a draw weight of 187 lb (almost 85 kg) and pull the string 36 cm to the rear. Then all you need to do is load the weapon with a 20" bolt, aim, disengage the safety, and fire. The bolt is then launched at a maximum speed of 390 fps (119 m/s) and hits the target. In other words, the bolt is fired at a speed of 428 km/h. It reaches its target in an instant. If you were aiming at a target 100 metres away, under ideal conditions the bolt would hit it in 0.84 seconds – faster than you could say “twenty‑one”.
The entire cam and limb system is mounted by the manufacturer onto the stock and secured with a single central screw, the so‑called One Bolt Assembly. Compared to cheaper models, the TS390 also features an adjustable stock and two string dampeners. These protect the limbs from unwanted string movement after the shot.
The crossbow in camo finish is clearly designed for use in the great outdoors. Specifically, it is a winter camouflage pattern (grey and white). The pistol grip ensures high shooting safety and a secure hold of the weapon. Safety is further enhanced by the TriggerTech technology. It not only links the safety against accidental discharge with the trigger, but also checks whether the bolts are correctly positioned. It also makes sure the bolts are launched with minimal, ideally no friction, which would otherwise slow them down unnecessarily.
The crossbow is supplied as a kit that you have to assemble yourself. However, this is not a difficult operation and you can manage it within a few minutes. In return, you also get a illuminated 4x32 crossbow scope, two 20" Barnett carbon bolts, a bolt holder, a rope cocking device and string wax. You therefore do not need to buy anything else (apart from perhaps more bolts and a shoulder quiver) and you are ready to shoot. Just be careful where you shoot. And above all, never dry‑fire or shoot with damaged bolts. This could irreversibly damage your crossbow.
