As ammunition it uses rubber, pepper or marking projectiles of .50 calibre (diameter 12.7 mm). Due to the design of the 6-shot magazine located under the barrel, it is not compatible with non-spherical projectiles. Individual rounds are inserted into the bottom opening after compressing the spring on the right side. The trigger with trigger safety is DAO (Double Action Only), so the pistol operates in Semi-Auto mode.
The power source is one 12g CO2 cartridge, which is inserted into the grip with the neck facing outwards. For its activation, the pistol is equipped with a quick-piercing system, where it is enough to strike the valve with the palm to pierce the cartridge. This way you can keep the pistol always ready without the risk of degradation of the sealing rings caused by freezing carbon dioxide.
After activation, a so-called indicator pin extends from the rear part of the slide, indicating that the pistol is under pressure and ready to fire. If you have not used the entire cartridge and you know that you will not be shooting for some time, we recommend releasing the pressure by gently pushing the indicator pin inward.
Under the barrel there is a short 22mm Weaver / Picatinny rail for mounting a laser or tactical flashlight, and aiming is done via fixed sights without adjustment. The internal mechanism of the pistol is of course made of metal, the external frame is polymer.
Our opinion: The Borner PDW50 pistol can best be compared to the popular T4E HDP50 / TP50 model from the German Umarex. It is equipped with the same quick activation system, and the magazine, indicator, trigger and so on work in the same way. It differs only in overall appearance and does not have fibre optic sights, but it can boast higher power. And that is crucial for a self-defence weapon.

Even though the safety has never worked, I’m giving it 5 stars because
overall I’ve really liked the launcher. The design is fine, it’s very
ergonomic and very practical. It’s quite accurate and powerful enough to use
the pepper balls at a normal self-defence distance (5–7 m) or even a bit more.
The rail goes all the way up to the trigger guard and this is super practical
when you install a torch or laser: you operate everything with just one hand, or
rather one finger, and it’s super comfortable. All in all, recommended if
you’re looking for something practical and comfortable to have just in case.
